Does this reason make the case stronger or would the visa officer think otherwise ?
not sure if she can sit for exams on tourist visa. If you are sure she can, then that reason should be good enough, but please make them sure that at the end she will go back to her country. we all know we've applied for partner visa and will be staying in Australia eventually. But it seems the immigration doesn't like to think that way. According to them tourist visa is to visit and it has to be genuine. sometimes tourist visa is granted for 1 year too. so, don't worry you may get for the duration you want. good luck!!

What forms would you need to do this for? I didn't sign a single thing for any of my partner visas as it's all done online now.

The homeaffairs site has a really good step by step that seems to answer all the questions you've raised so far.

40sp, 80 and 956 ( as we have lodged our application through a migration agent). Also both of our relationship statements as well.
But you can check and see if this is necessary. My husband and i just thought of doing it this way.

In 2014, you probably did a paper application. T is totally different now, with each of us having an online IMMI account.

These days the same questions are asked online, so you just answer it and press complete or submit, or whatever wording they use.

The 40SP in an online form now and both the applicant and sponsor online forms contain narrative questions that count as the statements for each of you.

SP40 is an application, i think thats a problem as most of us expect it to be a form, like a PDF form that is filled out and not an application that appears on the applications tab of the immi site..its not a form at all.
