Its not that Sponsor visa is only of 3 months, one can get visa for 6 months or more, but the condition remains same, exit after 3 months. That once 3 months are over, you hve to exit the country.
As you are not maaried to your partner yet , so i think he cannot sponsor you on the basis of PMV..
In your case , you can give visitor visa a try, you got it , wil be fine, if rejected, it wont affect your PMV

We applied online for the 309/100 in June 2014, they asked for medical + police checks in July - we sent everything back by August.
We had hoped to have the visa before going to visit my family in Australia in January - called the office beforehand and they wouldn't tell us anything.

Visa got approved (yay!) middle of March (6 weeks after we returned from Australia...)
and my partner is supposed to enter the country by August.
Very frustrating because it's a really expensive and long flight - and we have just been.

I don't understand why they would ask for the health check so early (I thought they usually ask closer to making a decision) - and then give such short notice for first entry (they are basing the entry date on when the health checks were performed).

Has anyone had success with getting the entry date changed? Or appealling etc.?
What's the deal with the "entry date"? From my understanding - and what the Australian embassy in Ottawa has told me - once the Partner Visa is approved, we have one year from the date of approval to enter Australia. Has that changed? Do they now give you a date that you must enter by?

It is normally one year from the date that your police and medical checks were completed as they have a one year validity. We recently were approved via Ottawa and the date for entry is 12 months from when the CO requested those documents.

Thanks, Mijita. That makes sense, seeing that the police and medical checks have a validity of 12 months. Our application is in, so now we wait....

Thought i would post in this forum. Applied in August 2014 @ Delhi high commission. Has anyone applied in August 2014 still waiting for visa? I received the acknowledgment letter on 02/09 confirming application was received. Medicals was done in Sept 2014 and PCC was submitted last week with a acknowledgement that it was received and forwarded to the relevant department.

Just curious as i've been reading in other forums where Oct-2014, Nov-2014, Dec-2014 applications was granted in the last few days of april.

Even an applicant in Feb-2015 got their visa on 30/04/2015....WTH???
I applied in Dec. 2014 and I havent been accepted yet. My application was pretty straight forward (online, no kids, low risk country, de facto of >3 years, living together >2 years, all medicals and police checks submitted with the initial application). I'm sill waiting on everything...no contact from CO.

A lot of the problem is misinformation on these sites. People are not clear on comparing apples with apples. A February 2015 application approved by 30 April 2015 very unlikely is was a 309/300 or 820/801. Or possibly it was Feb 2014.
Do you know how annoying the kids can be on a long road trip, are we there yet? are we there yet? well I guess the DIBP are just the same, they only tell you when you are there!!.

Hi it's been quiet here for the past month.

July is on its way, wondering if they will change waiting times or will it stay 10-14 months for the next year....

I will wait until 3rd July for an answer, then I will be off to get a visitor visa for my wife. Or better still, I may go for a visit, to escape winter here.

Hi all,
I lodged my documents for offshore 309/100 application last Friday (Jun 26th) and received an email yesterday from my CO (Jun 29th) to do Health Examination, quite faster than expected. Already got my HAP ID. My question is, i couldn't find any certain time period to complete this medical examination.. should I just make the appointment with panel physicians and do the medicals ASAP? Also, should I fill out the eMedical declaration form prior my health exmination?
Any answers are much appreciated. Thanks
