Steph
In the year to April 2020, the median processing time in London was 293 days.

The first 25% took up to 265 days.
The next 25% took between 265 and 296 days.
The next 25% took between 296 and 333 days.
The slowest 25% took over 333 days, with 10% of the total taking over 443 days.

subclass 309 Visa Processing Times in 2020

Just at the moment things might be slower due to Covid unless you have specific compassionate reasons to speed it up.

It might be worth submitting such a request.

Your flight is 3 days after Melbourne might open up.

You might need to ask your airline what procedures are in place if Melbourne remains closed.

Even if they do open up, they might restrict the numbers allowed in, like other states, and of course probably the same $3,000 quarantine fee.

Is delaying your flight an option, until the current situation is over?

Thank you for the information JandE, super useful!

Do you know how to submit a compassionate reason request? Is it somewhere on the Immi portal?

Suffice it to say a travel agent probably isn't the best person to give you that type of advice.

At least I wouldn't think so.

I can't tell you what to do, that's up to you.

I was simply saying that a travel agent probably isn't best suited to give you medical/visa related advice.

FYI... the processing time for 309 visa is now changed to 16-22 months. I was expecting this will happen and it will increase further in coming months. I think now the only way to get 309 visa this year is if someone directly knows the visa processing officers or through some sort of political connection. Seems like applying for 309 visa last year in March 2019 was the biggest mistake of my life

Finally!!! My husband just received his 309 visa grant after almost 18 months.
He is from Nigeria, processing office was Pretoria.

We applied Feb 7 2019

Received RFI June 2020 after I emailed them and asked if someone could look into our application.

Supplied all requested documents by July 10th 2020

I emailed them again July 19 asking for our visa to be granted.

July 22nd - visa granted!!

My husband had applied for 2 tourist visas while waiting for this visa, both were not granted - so we have spent the entire time apart!
We have a son born September 2019 that my husband is yet to even see, we are so relieved and excited to finally receive our grant!
