Hello,

Apologies for this long winded post, I’m a little stressed about my current situation. I’m currently in Sydney on a visitor visa 600. I arrived in Australia in December to spend Christmas with my husband. I was granted a 6 month tourist visa. I intended to return to Belgium in March as I was due to begin a teacher training course in my home country. But due to Covid-19 I wasn’t able to fly and my course also moved to distance learning. I stayed in Sydney until June when my visa was expiring and then applied for another tourist visa on the grounds that I could not leave because of the pandemic. My husband and I felt that it would be better I stay in Australia as god knows how long the borders will remain closed. I was granted another 3 month visa which expires in October.
My question is should I leave Australia in October? I have no firm commitments in Belgium and don’t want to be stuck away from my husband for an indefinite period of time. So we’re leaning towards applying for another tourist visa. What are the chances that I’ll get another tourist visa considering I’d already be in Australia for 10 months come October? I just don’t want a visa refusal on my file. The other thing to consider is that we are waiting for my 309 partner visa to come through and I know I have to be offshore for it to be granted. A friend of ours is saying I should return to Belgium as he thinks the partner visa will be processed quicker if I’m offshore, is that true? Also, I’ve already waited 15 months for my 309, we were hoping it would be approved before October but no luck so far. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi.

I can't advise you but I can share my story. if you go through some of the previous pages you can see there are couple of people with the same situation. My wife is on the same situation and we have applied for 3 tourist visas by now. she was told to leave the country just before the covid outbreak but wasn't able to leave so still on visa 600. They recently granted the last one so she can be here for 1 year on visitor visa. I am note sure if they grant again if we extend beyond 1 year and everything currently seems unclear.

wish best happen for you.

PLEASE SIGN OUR PETITION!

Our official petition regarding offshore partner visa processing (subclasses 300 and 309) is LIVE! We need YOUR help to get 10,000 signatures before September 2nd.

If you are an Australian citizen or permanent resident and can spare 30 seconds, it would be great to have your support added to the petition for parliament to process offshore partner visas fairly and quickly.

Signing this petition could help thousands of couples finally start their lives together in Australia. Due to inequities in the system (explained in the petition) offshore partner visa applicants can wait more than two years just to get their application looked at. This is an unreasonable amount of time and is resulting in incredible stress for couples and their children, many of whom have to live apart while their visa application is being processed.

If you sign, you will need to check your email straight after to confirm/validate the signature as otherwise it won’t count. Thank you so much for taking the time to give us hope of a fairer processing system!

Thanks shargh! I think we will apply for another tourist visa and see what happens. I was hoping to continue my studies but this year has messed up everything. Anyone know if I can apply for a student visa to study in Australia whilst I wait for my 309 partner visa?

Hi,
I am new to this forum and just wanted to provide information on my timeline. I applied for my 309 &100 visa at the beginning of January 2020. Everything has been submitted including police checks and medical. This was done from the UK.

Based upon the current situation what are the estimated processing times for UK applicates?
Jonny

An accurate answer depends on when the COVID-19 situation will end.

Many visa grants are being held back until travel is safe again.

Once Australian citizens are permitted to travel between States, and allowed to go overseas again, the visa and travel restrictions on foreigners might also be relaxed.
