Finally, after waiting 564 days or 1 year 6 months and 15 days or 18 months 15 days, we received the much awaited letter from the department.

Our background - My husband is much younger than me. So our circumstances were very different than others. We got married in April 2019 and lodged our 309 application in the same month.

We front loaded everything including the PCC and Medicals. As the application was progressing we kept adding more evidence. In April 2020, the medical and PCC expired. We got fresh PCC in August 2020; but decided not to get the medicals done again for time being. Until October 2020, there was no change in our status.

Our timeline -
DOL - April 2019
Processing Country - New Delhi, India
Call for an interview - 22 October 2020 (We both received a call at the same time on this day)
s56 RFI - 22 October 2020 - medicals to be done again. (Status changed to initial assessment)
Medicals done - 26 October 2020 (they received the reports on 31 October 2020)
2nd call for interview - I (the sponsor) got the call this time.
Grant - About an hour after 2nd interview, we received the 309 Grant letter.

Tips - During the interview they asked questions about our relationship. Stick to the point and answer what they ask. Be honest and do not hide anything. We provided so much evidence to the point where my husband exhausted all the upload capacity. So I started sending the documents via "Immigration enquiry form". Do not nag them for status enquiries as they will point you to the processing time.

Most importantly, I know its difficult, but hang in there. They have stated processing. And remember, evidence, evidence, evidence. They need to know that your relationship is genuine and continuing.

Good luck.

Just received my partner's visa grant this morning!

We applied in the USA. We did not use a migration agent or lawyer.

Application submitted: December 16, 2019
Medical submitted: January 4, 2020
100 visa granted: November 6, 2020

There was no request for further info. We opted to front-load the application and include police checks as well as the medical before they were requested.

And we are so relieved we won't have to pay for the medical again! Surprisingly, also, most of our police reports were issued last Sept/Oct, so we are now just over the 12 months recommended. Also greatly relieved that they opted to approve the application without requesting that we redo and resubmit those.

They approved the visa straight to 100 (permanent) rather than the 309 (temporary), which is really exciting. We have been together 8 years and de facto in the US for 5.5 years now (married 1.5 years), so I am sure the length of our relationship factored into that decision.

Now we just have to try to get flights and pay for quarantine...!

Good luck to you all.

Hi,

Congrats to the recent visa approvals! That is great news and gives the rest of us hope.

We have applied for my wife in New Delhi office in September 2019. We are now in Australia and she is here on a tourist visa whilst we wait for approval of our Offshore Partner Visa.

I am wondering if what others are doing who are in this position and had their visa recently approved, in terms of being outside Australia for the visa to be finalised? I think NZ is probably the best option, but it is still complicated.

It seems to vary. My wife's took two months from the date of final RFI information upload to be granted. At the same time, I have heard others waited up to a year after the RFI.

Many 309s seem to have come through in the past few weeks compared to this time a few months ago... Hang in there!
