Can independent contractor work count for skilled occupation work? And VETASSESS?

Hey everyone,
I am in the process of having my 485 approved. I am currently working in my nominated occupation, but as an independent contractor, not an employee. I.e. I invoice my boss each week. Will this pose problems when I apply for my 885 permanent visa next year?

Also, I applied to VETASSESS for assessment last September, but because my visa is taking a year to process, I thought I'd pay them about now. Does anyone know if that's okay or if I'd have to reapply to them? I've called them but they're not getting back to me and the lady I spoke to on the phone refused to answer because she said she didn't know anything about it. They had my name and reference number on file though.

Thanks.

Be it contract or direct employment you'll need evidence of your work so you ought to have a chat to your Boss about some contractual documentation.

As for

is it Vetassess's way to accept applications without a fee for I would not have thought that was a normal situation.
Perhaps you may get an answer with an email enquiry.

Thanks Wanderer...would my weekly invoices to my boss not suffice?

And yes it is normal with Vetassess. They said to send the payment in, I haven't had much money so I figured I'd wait closer to when my application was actually going to be assessed. I may even visit them in person.

You need to have a good read of the 885 eligibility requirements, each heading in the table being a link to detailed advice.
Actually for an 885 it is your two years education in Australia and the 485 that is the basic qualification requirement is it not instead of experience.
If you are looking to get points for Australian experience then you need evidence of that as described.
