Does e457 require passport hard copy?

Hi All,

I need to apply for e457 and have to travel for my current employer. Because of my travel I cannot send my passport with the application.

If I file e457 can I get over this problem?

Thanks

There's no problem for Immi only usually request a certified copy of the ID page, the only exception I've heard to that being India where it seems the PP is requested and that possibly an anti fraud requirement.

Thanks for the reply.

My prospective employer is based in Sydney and they have said that they will apply for my VISA so if the application is lodged in Sydney will they still ask for my passport to be sent?

You need to have a read of the 457 information via Visa Options - Employer Sponsored Workers - Workers - Visas & Immigration .
There's an employer application and position nomination approval required as well as your own application and you need to submit that.
Whether you will be required to submit your passport or just certified ID pages will be determined once your application is considered in Australia but it is quite possible it will not be required for a TR visa.

Hi, Wales:

I had to lodge an e457 a few years back (2007) when I first came to Australia.

Since the application is electronic, you only need to send electronic certified copies of your documents.

You can upload them right on the site while you're lodging the application. And if you have problems due to file size (which I did), you can contact DIAC and they'll give you the contact information of an agent so you can email the documents directly.

I would hope (but don't quote me on this) that a government wouldn't ask for your actual/ physical passport - you wouldn't be able to travel otherwise. In the US, the passport is the property of the government even though it's in the citizens' possession - only the US government can take it away (plus, we're advised not to give it out to anyone as, technically, it is not ours to give).

Hope this helps
