Visa 176 Family Sponsored Query....

Good day

I was wondering if someone could just guide my wife and I.
We are currently living in South Africa and applied for a 176 visa on the 3rd March 2009.
My wife being the primary applicant as she is a Primary / Secondary School Teacher.
We still have not been given a Case Officer.
I was wondering if anyone is in the same boat as us.
Also would like to know when we would be given a case officer as we want to move over to Brisbane, Australia.
Thanks
Neill

The first thing I think that needs to be clarified Neill is whether your wife has been assessed by Teaching Australia as a Primary Teacher or a secondary Teacher as that may have affected the priority area re processing the application eventually ended in.
Seems as though TA may have had a name change - Secondary School Teacher - 241411 but same deal applies and I recall that primary teachers were not accorded as high a priority in the past though that may have now merged with changes that occurred throughout 2010.
Have a look at a few of the changes on the Whats New List and it could be her occupation is now on SOL#3 but if not, then the application will be in limbo unless her occupation is given a higher priority.

Morning

OK i understand what you have said here. We applied for a 176 family sponsored skilled if im not mistaken. My wife has qualifications to teach a Primary or Secondary school. She currently teaches Grade 7's.
I contacted Teaching Australia via mail and asked what my wife needs to do to be assessed by Teaching australia. We were told that she needs to do the IELTS exam and achieve 7 and above for all the 4 topics. She achieved 9.5 Avg for this test.
So what u saying is that if her Application is not on SOL 3 we could wait for ever. I have sent a mail to the application center and asked when my application will be given to a case officer and we still have not got a reply. We should get one next week im thinking.
We just desperate to move over and the other thing with the application is that we did it ourselves and not through an agent.
Hopefully it seen too soon with a case officer.

I have just checked now and my wife is on SOL 1 and 4 . Now i know 4 is just for State Sponsorship. So what does 1 mean then.

Thanks for your help.

Her qualifications in SA may allow her to teach primary or secondary there but here in Australia it is going to be one or the other and if you have put an application in without contact with TA, I'm left wondering what organisation you did use for her to get an occupational assessment.

The occupational assessment is a prime step to occur prior to putting in a skilled application, be it sponsored or not.
The SOL #1 was initially the sole SOL and showed what occupations that it was possible to make a skilled visa application with.
It is now SOL #3 and #4 that now indicate that and also the priority that will apply for all visa applications, past and present/future.
#4 is also for state sponsorships only so whereas your wife's application may still be a valid one, with it not being on the #3, it will have a low priority for processing.

Hi

Thanks for the reply.
Ok we contacted the Department and they have requested that my wife does another English exam, so she will be writing this again on the 7th may hopefully.

I would like to know what a Grade 7 Teacher is classified as.
Primary Teacher, Secondary Teacher etc.
This help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you again for your help.
