It is never likely to have the industry or commerce that southern capitals have and with the demand for development associated with those cities I'd reckon that is where there'll always be much more IT development work, that is of what there is left after much outsourcing occurs to cheaper labour markets of overseas countries.

Wanderer, although you are correct in saying southern capitals have the industry they also have many more (highly qualified) people to fill the jobs. The NT has a massive skilled labour shortage in some IT areas and you don't have to be as highly qualified as you would think to get jobs in those areas.

I would suggest you look at the NT skills shortage list to see the specific industries that have shortages. (Google it cos I can't post a link).

Anecdotally, anyone with a pulse can get a job in Darwin!

Thanks ciaranm for your detail comments.
So is it wise to get NT state sponsorship for Indian IT professionals ?

If you have the right skills and experience you may be able to get state sponsorship. Go to the https://www.mara.gov.au/ and find a migration agent that can help you. There are a few in the NT.

Also, look here: Business and Skilled Migration - Migrate from overseas

A state sponsorship will give your application a higher priority for ptocessing and if you are doing your application yourself, you ought to be capable of putting on a state sponsorship application, they asking for much the same sort of detail as what is required when making a visa application.

Wanderer,

Thanks for your comments but, NT applications processing time has blown up and it takes 8 months to process the application. Given the issue with processing times I do not see any point in going for NT sponsorship.

Please let me know if my information is invalid.

Thanks,
Ajay

I got it from official MARA agent.I searched at NT website it is not clearly mentioned.I have asked the agent to send me the official source of the information.

Is there any other way to double check ?

Thanks,
Ajay

Hi Ajay

Did you get anything on this front.. I'm also in your position and it can help me.

I assume that we got to work in the same state who is sponsoring us.. so we need to factor in the payscales in the state, job market along with taxes... right??

Thanks
Anup

I have applied for NT SS on 6th May,2011 and got the acknowledgement where they ahev mentioned that the processing time for the application would be 30 weeks.
I am worried coz this would fall after 1st july and new rules will be effective. I have to do the IELTS again with 7 each to apply by then.
In gr8 trouble.
