Does outstanding debt affect immigration chances?

My Australian boyfriend and I are in a long distance relationship since some time now. I recently visited him in Thailand (he has dual Aussie/Thai citizenship), and we sort of formalized things further, and would like to move to Australia in about two years. I currently live in Spain, where the economy is rather in the crapper. I took out a loan some years ago to help family, and am still paying it off. However, since I need to spend 1 year with the BF to satisfy the DeFacto partner visa requirement, I'll most likely be spending that year in Thailand, as everything there is cheaper. My conundrum arises because I'm not sure I'd be able to keep up with my loan payments while living in Thailand, I'll probably be using up what little I've been able to save so far just for the tickets. Would the fact that I'm leaving a debt behind in Spain be a factor of consideration for the immigration authorities?
