Red face Work Experience Requirement for Subclass 175

Hi Guys:

I've got a question on the work experience for subclass 175.

My nominated occupation is on SOL and can be certified by EA (Engineers Australia), which considers only bachelors degree of engineering.

After graduation, I continue to work towards a PhD in a closely related area in USA. My current title is "RA" (research assistant) for my professor. I already worked 20 hours/week for 3 years, and have all the payslips, together with the reference letter and the proof of employment.

My question is: Can such "RA" experience count towards offshore experience? Or at least satisfying the minimum 1 year requirement to lodge my application?

Thanks a lot for any suggestions.
