PLEASE HELP: Do i need to have a job while applying for immigration?

Hi! I am an auditor here in Dubai, my contract will be expiring this August 2011 and I don't intend to renew it. I plan to go home to Philippines and from there start working on my application to Australia as a skilled worker immigrant. I'd like to know if there would be disadvantages if in case I do not have a job by the time I lodge my application. I will work in the Philippines while waiting for my visa (God-willing it will be granted) but Im not sure how long will it take for me to get a job, so suppose I am still not working by the time I lodge my application, will there be any downsides then? Thanks a lot!
