Granted non-ETA visitor visa valid for 100 days, any problem?

My girlfriend was granted a non-ETA visitor visa that was valid from 19th December 2010 to the 28th March 2011. By my calculation, that is a period of 100 days.

She ended up staying from the 22nd December 2010 to the 28th of March 2011, which was 97 days. She had no problems coming or going through immigration at the airport, and in any case, she had documentation from the immigration department with the valid dates on it and the visa linked to her passport (no stamp) obviously didn't raise any flags.

I thought tourist visas could only be issued for 3, 6 and 12 month periods? Or is it at the discretion of the offshore immigration department? Do any of you think she might have done something wrong by staying for more than 90 days? There was nothing mentioned in the letter from immi about only staying for 90 days, it only mentioned the start and end dates.

We are now engaged and planing for her to apply for a PMV, I'm just wondering is we've stuffed up her chances by possibly overstaying her original visa
