Staying in Australia

I am on a 1 year travel visa from the UK and in W.A. I would like to stay longer and try and get work if possible. I am 58 years old but very active, just looking for part time work would do me. I have to leave Australia on 17th November 2011. Any suggestions please. I am staying with a long term friend who has been in Australia for 7 years. Any suggestions please? Thanks
