Defacto visa?!? marriage!?!

Hi,

Realy enjoyin this website - so much info
Basically i have a question about best visa options for myself - i am from scotland and met a great guy while on my 2nd year of a working holiday visa. We met and started dating Sept 2010 and were together exclusively until my visa ran out end of march 2011 and had to come home to scotland! We weren't living together, both just had seperate room lets - although we stayed over @ each others flats most nights! We want to have a future together and eventually get married and have children"
So my question is, is it possible for me to go back to oz on a tourist visa and by this time my boyf will have his own place - which i will move into and we will live together - and build up some paperwork re our relationship! we have some stuff just now(joint bank a/c which we are both puttin $ in each week to save for my flight back!, phone bills etc with how much we talk on the phone and for how long, cards, pres, pics of things we have bought etc)

As we planned to get married in the future - my boyf seems to think easier option is just to get married sooner than we planned rather than doing defacto!? so my question for this - is it possible to marry him if i go back on tourist visa then apply for dependency visa with him!?
Obv i want to get back to oz to be with him asap - and sort some sort of visa as quickly as poss - as he will be supporting until such time i am allowed to work! as you can't work on visitor visa? can you work legally on the "planning to marriage" visa?

I would really appreciate any-ones opinions/advice if they have been in this situation.

Thanks in advance...
