Claiming Spouse points for 189/190 visa

Hi Guys,

I am planning to apply in November for one of the points based visas. I want to claim points for partner skills. My wife is a medical doctor and she has got her degree verified by AMC. Is this equivalent to skill assessment? Plus what is the nominated occupation for doctors on SOL?

Secondly, is Ielts compulsory for claiming partner points and how much score is required?

There are a lot of medical occupations on the SOL, so you and your wife will need to review the various options to see which one best matches her experience/ qualifications.

You'd need to check with the skills assessor (it appears Medical Board of Australia is the assessor for most of the medical practitioner occupations) requires an IELTS for the assessment.

To claim points for your wife, she will have to have a skills assessment, and an English test. She is only required to have IELTS minimum 6 for DIBP, but her skills assessor will require that she has IELTS Academic 7's.
