For those who already have their visa! Timing Q

I've had a look through the thread at the top, and couldn't really find an answer to my question!

We put the app in at the start of last week, got the confirmation email etc, got our CO. The email said that they have they need from us in terms of documents, health checks, etc etc etc. I was really pleased abotu all that !!

Then today, we got back all our evidence in the mail! All the bank stuff, payslips, photos, bills, etc etc

Not the forms/stat decs/certified copies - but everything else!

does this mean anything? Does it mean it might be done earlier than 5 months?! Or have they just looked through that, said, yep that bit's ok, then put it to one side?? Does anyone know?

Am I mad to hope it might be sooner rather than later? Do they do this to everyone?

Hi there suzannah,

I think it means they have established that the relationship is genuine and no longer need those documents. Visas are processed in stages e.g. relationship first then health and character next etc.

If you didn't submit a medical with the application, then this could be the next stage and you should expect them to contact you requesting an exam to be done.

He's already had his medical, so hopefully that bit will be straight forward.

Thanks for the replies everyone, we've got everything crossed it doesn't take the full 5 months they've got on the website!

Ours took 4 months, and they returned some part of evidence (photos mostly) on the day we lodged the application, and sort of an impromptu interview as well. Submitted more evidence and within a week or so, they requested us to do a medical check. Visa granted right at the fourth month mark Good luck!

Hi Suzannah,

I think i recall replying on one of your posts earlier in the year when you were getting the application together and if i recall you're applying in the UK right?

First congrats on getting it all together, it really is a relief to have it submitted. Then the waiting begins and that can get very difficult because time seems to be so much longer than normal.

If i'm right and you did apply in the UK, you may be interested to read over my post in the Visa time line thingy. We applied just before Xmas to Australia House, London. Our visa was approved last Friday (19th May) but our CO contacted my boyfriend on 12th April to say the visa was ready to be approved but we had stated we wanted to leave late Aug/early Sept and one of the police checks was due to expire on 21/6/11 so he gave us to option of finalising it that day and having to enter by 21/6/11 or getting an updated police check so we could stay longer. So the long and the short of that is that from the date we got our first correspondence from the CO to the date he called (and would've finalised the application if we had wanted him to) was 16 weeks. I found that just days prior to getting that phone call on the 12th that i was going into overdrive with obsession about it all, checking email constantly, checking the post, going on this forum a little more than was healthy and then low and behold we got the good news and i was able to relax. I had no concerns that the visa wouldn't be approved as we'd provided all the documents requested and there were no issues with stasifying any of the criteria but no the less it is a stressful period. Made worse for me as i'm not working at the moment so i had lots of time on my hands to be thinking about it all the time.

And it sounds like your application is all heading in the right direction too so that's great. As Aussie girl said, they've returned your documents as they're satisfied with the content and so that can only be a good thing. And he's done the medical so that should help to speed things along as it seems to be a little quicker if the medical is done prior to submitting the application. We received a letter in the post earlier this week with a hard copy of the confirmation letter (which we received by email last Friday) and also out disc of photos was returned to us as well. We did not request to have any of the paperwork returned to us (we kept our own copies anyway so didn't need it) but it seems that different CO's have their own procedures with such thing perhaps and maybe your CO just preferred to send your stuff back to you sooner rather than later.

Anyway, all the best with the application...i look forward to hearing your good news soon!
