Calculating ETA stay duration

Im wondering how do we calculate the max. 3 months stay for the ETA? I was being advised differently when I called up the air ticketing.
Say we fly on the 1st of Mar, reaching aust on the 2nd of Mar, so we need to leave latest 1st June? 2nd June? or 30th May or 31st May? do we count by 90 days? I was being told by the ticketing operator I could leave latest on the 2nd of June and by another operator 31st May.

I was thinking to come back to Aust 10 days later again, but does it clash with the ETA conditions which says "in between each visit, we need to maintain an extended period of stay outside Australia before we enter again". Anyone having similar situation?
