Thumbs up 820 Visa Granted!!!!!!

Just got the e-mail from the Department of Immigration saying that my 820 visa has been granted!!!! We applied in August 2013, so we waited just a little over 14 months. I honestly didn't even think we'd get approved this fast, this was a total surprise. I actually had two missed calls from a blocked number around the same time that the e-mail came in, but no messages were left...guessing it was from them telling me my visa was approved?

Anyway, hooray!!! It's such a relief to know that this process is almost completely over (of course, I still have to wait two years for my 801 to be approved), but at least the heavy work and stress is over. Actually, I feel a bit numb...like, I'm elated, but I'm also feeling like, "Wait...that's it? We've been approved? Huh." haha

For anyone who is curious, our visa wasn't complete when we applied; we submitted everything except the police clearances (and we submitted my medicals two weeks after sending in the application). We applied onshore via post to the Sydney office. We just submitted the Australian police clearance in May, and the FBI background check in June. We got married two weeks ago, and I had to apply to go overseas for the wedding. I have no idea if that made the process go faster, or what, but I thought I'd just share my experience. Also, we never heard anything from a case worker- never were asked any questions or interviewed, though I suppose that could still happen when it's 801 time? I think we presented a really cohesive application, with lots of statements (5 in total), plenty of "hard" proof (like joint bank statements, our lease, e-mails from when we were apart, tons of pictures together, even our "see friendship" page on Facebook- which we used to show the social side of our relationship, etc.), and I think we did a good job of presenting our case.

Anyway, good luck to everyone still waiting! It feels good to know this is done...this has been (in all) a three year process for me, and I really couldn't have done it without this forum. I started lurking here in 2011, before I even moved to Australia, and a lot of the advice and examples I got from people here helped me to piece our own application together

Congratulations!

Wonderful news Brittpinkie. Thanks for sharing your journey with us all. Your time frame and process seem very similar to ours. You don't have to wait 2 years from now to apply for your 801. Your eligibility date is 2 years from the date of your original application, so that would be about 10 months from now. It takes a few months after that for it to be processed. Anyway, time to relax and celebrate now... enjoy your warm Aussie summer together... cheers...

Oh, wow...I didn't even realize that! Hadn't read all the little fine print yet, haha. Well, that's great to hear! I'm sure I'll be back here asking for help 10 months from now
