what happens when its granted?

Hi all,

Im expecting my defacto visa to be granted shortly but i was wondering how it gets granted? is it by email or post?
Does it mean that you can go to australia exactly from the date it is granted? or is there a waiting period?

Dear Wanderer/Members

Hi Trickey

My enquiry is very similar to yours. I had an email from my Case Officer to advise me that the temporary partner visa is due to be granted off-shore sometime in July. I'd like to know what happens between then and now and also the average time after the actual grant given to you to get into Australia.

I'm currently on a student visa, so I know I can travel on this but want to hold off until I get some further information.

Regards, Sonia

Hi guys,

The time of entry is connected to the date of the police checks and medicals (whichever one came first). They are valid for one year, so the applicant has one year from the date they were obtained before they have to enter Australia. If you requested a later entry date, you might have to get the check or medical again. Your CO will tell you the date they have to enter by, so in the meantime you can get everything organised for the move.

As for what information they give you, I don't know. But, I imagine it might be related to settling in Australia, such as important contact info., where English lessons must be taken (the governement provides up to 500 free hours of English lessons to immigrants if needed) etc.

Thanks for the information,

But do you know if you are notified by email, post or both? or do they phone to confirm being granted?

Well, some embassies like India request the passport and put an old school sticker in it. But a lot of embassies no don't give you a physical visa, but give you an e-Visa, which means it's in the system that you have a spouse visa and can just get your ticket and enter the country.

Is this what you're asking? You should check the embassy webiste as to whether a visa label is needed. Your CO will contact you when the time comes.

Hi Aussiegirl

Thanks so much for that information. By my reckoning I handed in my meds in February, so technically I have until Feb 2012 to enter. However I have to organise international student studies for the beginning of semester 2 in July 2011, so hopefully nothing will going awry with the grant of the visa .
