prospective marriage visa questions

Hi everyone,
i have a couple of questions concerning my prospective marriage visa application.

I am a romanian citizen engaged to be married to an australian citizen. My fiance and I were thinking of getting married in Bali due to the scenary and also the fact that my family does not need a visa to get in Indonesia. Plus i wouldn't have to have 2 receptions... one in RO and one in AU... as in to please both my family and his ...LOL

But i came across an issue, as i am in the process of building my prospective marriage visa file to apply for the 9 month visa, i need to add a letter from the celebrant to the file.

My question is: is the letter from a celebrant from Bali recognised by the australian government? .... i don;t want them to say something like we only need a letter from one of our celebrants that i found on the australian website.....

I would really like to have my wedding there, even though it's only going to be something like 30 people. I also want to ask you if having only a small amount of people at the wedding will be a problem for me at the next visa i need to apply to - the spouse visa.

Thank you very much in advance, any advice is appreciate it.

Hi there,

Any wedding legally held in another country that is not against Australian law is recognised in Australia. Of course, if you married a cousin or had multiple husbands/ wives this is not recognised.

So, the letter you get should be fine and be no problem at all. You may want to contact the Australian embassy in Indonesia to ask verify and ask if there are any procedures that you and partner should carry out when there for the ceremony. They may be able to certify the letter from the celebrant too.

Thanks for your reply, and no, i am not related by blood to my future husband and also i've never been married before and neither has he.

I shall inquire some more on the issue, thank you very much for getting back to me.
