Hi,

If you don't have a birth certificate, you need a copy of your family book/ register showing your name and your parents' names. Or, an identification certificate is also acceptable. If you can't get either of these things, you can use your passport if you have one. If you don't have a passport, then the only option is go to the police and get a letter from them to state you are who you say you are. I don't know if that will be sufficient though.

Your BA from Mumbai Uni. should be accepted if was 3 years or more and you successfully graduated.

Who issued your passport? What documents did you have to provide to apply for your passport? The issuing authority might be able to organize you a copy of the family book, or at least tell you where to get it from in India. In Australia, it would be the Office of Births, Deaths and Marriages, I'm sure there is an equivalent in India?
