Question Routine Check

Can anybody give me any idea about what does it mean by "routine check"? My file is state sponsored sc176 and my CO assigned on sep 2010. Form 80 was asked. Now after 7 months, when I enquire..the answer is "routine check". What does it actually mean?
How much time does it take for routine check?

Hi there,

The form 80 is given to ASIO, the Australian secret service, to do a background check in regard to security threats. It's usually requested when the applicant comes from a 'high risk' country where war and terrorism are prevalent. Also, certain visa categories seem to be asked for it more than others.

Unfortunately, you may have to wait longer as ASIO is battling to investigate all of the asylum seekers that land on Australian shores. DIAC has not control over the process, so bothering your CO won't get it done faster. If you want to complain, you have to contact ASIO directly.
