You have to get married first .

After you get married then you apply for an 820. Online is the better option as you can apply and start uploading documents while you are waiting on the marriage certificate.

You will need to show how you have combined your life together ie. joint bank account, joint account etc. 2 x 888's, updated statements etc.

1/ Open up a joint bank account - You can get one at NAB that has no account fees. Even if you aren't working as long as you are both accessing it then it shows combined finances.
2/ If you rent see if you can get the lease in both names
3/ See if you can get your name on any of the utilities - I know that you can definitely get it on your Telstra bill but Foxtel will not do joint bills.
4/ You can become an additional card holder for fly buys
5/ If you go to the movies keep the movie tickets and both of you get a cinibuzz account
6/ If you get anything off ebay get a joint ebay account, this will then show you getting joint mail at the same address
7/ Get a joint pay pal account and then you can pay for ebay purchases, Telstra bill etc with pay pal
8/ Keep all your wedding cards
9/ If you go on a honeymoon take photos and keep evidence of hotel accommodation (in both names if possible) and flight tickets etc [I say IF because with the cost of the visa application and wedding not everyone can afford to go on a honeymoon]

That is about all I have in my head at the moment. I hope it helps give you a head start.

I know that you mention you have just arrived, don't forget to apply for your TFN online too so that you have it when you get a job - you can also use it as evidence of mail at the same address too

When was your visa granted? Just wanted to remind you that you have to both get married and apply for the 820 within nine months of your PMV being granted.

Online. You can add stuff over a few days or weeks where post everything has to be ready to go with the application.

There's already an overview on this forum (which I wrote). It's linked in the thread called "Partner Visa Wait Times & Resources" at the top of the forum.

Here's a direct link to the overview: http://www.australiaforum.com/565833-post6.html
