Subclass 176 (Relative Sponsored Visa)

Hi Everyone,

I recently applied for the subclass 176 (Relative sponsored visa) in April 2011, and just wondering if anyone have any idea on how long the approval might take? ..i have searched almost every where but all i could get was a range from 18-24 months. Is it going to take that long? I know people used to get it within 9 months from the date of application. Another Query is, since the point system is changing from 1st of July 2011, does it mean the immigration will process all the applications (old point system application) before 1st July?

Hope to get a prompt reply

Hi. Since you are applying for an sponsored visa, you might be in priority 2. It means that probably you will have a faster answer 3 to 8 months. If your documents are in Diac right now, you will not have any change after july 1

Hi havalfe,

Thanks for your reply. But I thought Subclass 176 Family sponsored is Priority-3? Correct me if I am wrong.

And the second part of my question was whether I'll get a faster response before July 1st since the DIAC is changing the point sysem from 1st July (and not whether my application will be affected after July 1st).

Hope to get a reply soon.

Thanks again

Health & Character Clearances for GSM Applications

PRIORITY GROUP 3 APPLICANTS
All applicants who meet the following eligibility criteria (Points 1-3 below) are invited to
proceed to obtain health and character clearances now.

1. The application was lodged under one of the following visa subclasses between
15 January 2009 and 30 June 2010:
o Skilled – Independent (Migrant) visa (subclass 175),
o Skilled – Sponsored (Migrant) visa (subclass 176), or
o Skilled – Regional Sponsored (Provisional) visa (subclass 475),
OR
The application was lodged under one of the following visa subclasses between
6 November 2009 and 30 September 2010:
o Skilled – Regional Sponsored (Provisional)visa (subclass 487),
o Skilled - Independent (Residence) visa (subclass 885), or
o Skilled – Sponsored (Residence) visa (subclass 886),
Applicants who lodged their application outside of this date range should see below:
Applications not in this date range

2. All applicants aged 16 years or over are nationals of, and in the past 10 years have
only ever resided in, a low risk country(ies).

Applicants from all other countries, and those who have resided for more than 12
months in any other country, should see below: Applicants not from a ‘low risk’
country

3. A case officer has not yet contacted you about the application.
If you meet all three criteria you may choose to initiate health and character clearances now,
ahead of your application being assigned to a case officer for consideration and a formal
request for these clearances being made.
All other Priority Group 3 applicants should not yet provide health and character clearances.
Under the current priority processing arrangements it is likely that most Priority 3
applications lodged between the date range listed above will be considered by a case officer
within the validity period of medical and character clearances, should these clearances be
undertaken now.

Hi havalfe,

Thanks a lot for the reply. Just another query, I figured out that for subclass 176 (relative sponsored) I missed out 2 documents to attach (1. name change doc, 2. Family tree diagram) before 1st July. Should that have any effect on my application (are they going to consider my application on current NEW rule? Although I have applied the main application in early April.

fingers crossed.

Hi dude,

I have also applied for the same visa as of you. I think it would take around 12-18 months as per present processing times. It usually varies according to your nominated occupation.

Do you know anything about the eligibilities of the sponsor ( In addition to being a PR or Citizen). I mean financially or job profile and number of years residing in Australia like that.

Hi Mate,
I dont think there is any classification of sponsors as long as they are citizens/PR they can sponsor regardless of any financial condition.
Are you sure it takes 12-18 months? I submitted 2 docs after 1st july...do u know whether that will have any problem?

Submission of docs doesn't matter if you received ur acknowledgement stating the lodgement date as prior to June 30. As far as I have known it really takes more than a year to get the visa. But I hope that the recent changes in the point system will have serious impact and we would get our visa earlier than the mentioned time frame.

Hi josev5000,

You need to stay in Perth for at least 2yrs and then can move anywhere within Australia. That's a commitment you need to give to the state that has nominated you.
