Advice on visas

Hi everyone ,
Please be patient with me as new to this !! have a few questions on visas . Myself ,husband and 3 children are wanting desperately to move to Australia we haven't yet gone for our visas as want to sell the house first but have a potential buyer now so are looking in to what visas suit us . we are looking at the general skilled visa as my husband is a engineer and also we do have a family sponsor whom lives in Queensland. I'm finding it a little confusing on what visas to go for and if anybody knows any good agents to go with ?
Also can we go to Australia on a year visa whilst waiting for our long term visas to come through .
Any help would be great.

a search of the australian immigration website (which assists you to choose a visa based on questions and your answers) will answer many of your questions.

You can apply for a tourist visa in the interim, but still need to show that you are a genuine tourist for that time. (unless you qualify for an electronic visa ie. from US UK etc etc).
