When VISA is granted, does the embassy require my passport?

My spousal visa will be processed next month, and I am just wondering if I need to send my passport to the embassy for them to submit the visa into it? Any help from people with past experience would be greatly appreciated!

It depends where you are. India for example still requires a physical label in the passport, but most countries now issue you an e-visa which means you are in the system and can get on a plane to Australia without giving your passport to the embassy
Maybe ask your CO. But if they need it, they will ask for it closer to the final stage of processing.

Thanks for the info. I am in the UK so I would assume it's going to be an e - visa.
