Looking for details on Temporary 309 Visa

Hi All

I recently got my temp visa 309. The problem is that I applied for my Police Clearance very early in the process and had to re-apply for another one. The Police Clearance had alot of admin problems (got lost in post for one) and by the time i recieved it my temporary Visa had already been approved. It was my fault for not keeping the immigration officer informed of the delay.

My problem now is that I have to enter Australia before the 14 August and we are just not ready. I can probably manage to go for a week or two holiday but I need to return to South Africa to finish sorting everything out this side. Is this ok?
I am also not sure if I am able to enter Australia with my temp Visa by myself or must I be accompanied by my partner? Would my Visa be cancelled if I return to SA after such a short time?

thanks in advance for your help

Hi,

The most important thing is to activate the visa before the time given. So, I think it would be OK to go there for a short while and leave again.

I haven't heard anything about having to travel with your partner. It seems fine to enter alone since you have a visa and are a legal immigrant anyway.

Maybe just contact your old CO and get some advice from them just to make sure.

I think you should be fine to enter Australia alone and activate the visa.

Was it the South African police check you had lots of trouble with? My partner applied for his a while back and it was a HUGE saga trying to get it. Nightmare!

yup it was South African clearance, it takes forever and the first time they sent it to my street address and it got lost in the post, luckily i got hold of someone who was a great help but it was too late to send it as my Visa had already been approved. My fault was in not keeping the embassy updated about my renewal, they have been very professional and helpful to me, so in a nutshell bad applicant

An update on my query, its perfectly fine for me to go without my partner to get my Visa authorised and return to South Africa as long as i get there before it expires.
