He's waiting to hear what they are willing to do. I just wanted to be prepared depending on what they say.

I might just tell him to try to get the extra 5 points and go the independent route. I hope that they still have a chef shortage come July!!

Do you have any skills? If so he can probably claim 5 points for you?

NO LMT as such, but the employer must show that they have a genuine need for a paid employee to fill a skilled position and must also meet the Training Benchmarks.

For a large and well-established business like the Hilton, it should not be too hard to address both criteria.

Thanks Nick,

Fingers crossed that they're open for that type of sponsorship!

BTW, any ideas how often invites are sent for the 189 visa? Is it a monthly thing? Twice a year?

If the employment sponsorship doesn't pan out then he will try the 189 route, but not sure if chefs will still be on there next July. If he gets in an EOI before the next SOL list is published but isn't invited, does it roll over into the next year? What happens if chefs are removed, does the EOI languish and become invalid?

So complicated

Invitation rounds are held twice each month. No one can predict if/when any occupation will be removed or added to the occupation lists. I'm not sure what happens if an occupation is removed after an invitation has been made.

Thanks,

I think it might be best to wait until the new lists come out in July. It would be awful to spend 2000 on a skills assessment (2 months) and then have the skill shortage removed!
