Question Working Holiday Visa to Partner Visa

Hello. My partner is Japanese and I am Australian. He is here on his second WHV and it will expire on the 30th of this month.

We applied for a partner visa through a solicitor and it was sent via express post this Monday.

Can someone explain how they give the bridging visa (for example, do they send a letter in the mail, etc)

Will my partner need to leave Australia once and come back in on a tourist visa until the bridging visa is given to us?

Thank you.

You partner should be granted a Bridging Visa A when his visa application is received. Normally this would be emailed to your representative (solicitor), who would then pass it on to you. You partner's VBA would give him full work rights.

As you partner's visa was lodged in Australia his visa can be granted in Australia, so he will not need to leave Australia.

Regards

Thanks for the swift reply, Jeremy.

My main concern is that the visa may not be recieved before the visa expiry date which is this Sunday.

If, on the chance that it didn't, would he then have to leave and come back on a tourist visa?

It's too bad your solicitor didn't lodge your application online as you would have received the BVA almost immediately. If your solicitor a registered MARA agent? Hopefully they can advise what your partner should do. He may be able to call DIBP to confirm if he's been granted a BVA, but typically all communication should be done through your agent.

Your solicitor should be able to track the delivery and should have ensured that the application is received on time.

The lodgement date will be the date that the application is received and stamped at the processing centre.
