Bipolar and Visa 189

Hi,

I am planning to bring my family is Australia and planning to apply for visa 189. I and my spouse are both working. I would like to bring my children to Australia because the people and the living condition is way much better than where we live now.

Unfortunately, my spouse has been diagnosed for the past 9 years of bipolar but has been on constant employment for 8.5 years. Not jumping between jobs.

I have read that for visa 189 there is no health waiver. I am not sure if I should pursue the application or how to get proper information on this as I also do not want to spent to much money incase we do not have a chance to immigrate to Aussie.

Any thoughts on this?

It shouldn't be an issue. They're only concerned with medical conditions that will cost the system $40,000 over your first 5 years in the country. If she just needs basic medication, is able to work, and hasn't been hospitalized (and is unlikely to need to be hospitalized) with it, it's unlikely to cost that much and your visa isn't likely to be denied. You can contact one of two MARA-registered Australian Migration Agents who specialize in helping people migrate with medical conditions. They'll give you an honest answer as to whether it's an issue or not. Their names or George Lombard and Peter Bollard.

You can Google:
"George Lombard" migration
or
"Peter Bollard" migration

and their websites will turn up.

Trish - Did you end up getting the visa, did you have any trouble?

I e-mailed Peter Bollard who told me today that being Bipolar I probably wouldn't pass the health requirement.
