Smile FBI PCC fingerprints - visa 820

I just submitted my 820 application and would like to go ahead with obtaining the FBI police clearance checks before submitting anything else. I don't have a CO assigned but would like to just a jump start since waiting times are 3 months and the holidays are approaching.

Can I get live scan fingerprints at any local Melbourne police station instead of the traditional ink? Is the format of the local police printout compatible to the FBI standard fingerprint form (FD-258)?

I have read about applicant's troubles regarding ink prints and I am trying to prevent that. I called the FBI HQ and they said sure they take live scan as long as it is on FD-258 of the police station, but I would like to confirm with y'all.

Any info would be great!!

Normally you would have your finger prints done by the Australian Federal Police. Check with them and whether they can do what you want.

Yep just called them. Individual police stations don't do them anywhere, just on Flinders St in the Docklands apparently.

Does anyone know what's the best way to mail by post? I have never mailed anything before and would like something fast and with tracking..

Thank you so much

When we did ours a few months ago, the FBI required ink prints to be mailed, no live scans from Australia. We went to a major police station and got them done there and mailed them. It took at least 2 months, probably closer to 3.

I recommend getting a couple of sets and sending both, as there is more chance of them getting readable prints

I know you want to save money, however, if you want to send quickly and be trackable then I suggest you use EMS Courier. You can do this through Australia Post. Just go to an Australia Post and ask about their EMS courier service. It is much cheaper than DHL and the like. Normally takes 3 to 4 days. You can track on the Australia Post website.

Thank you Jeremy and kangaroo girl!

I will do sets of prints just in case then. One on the police station's card and one on an FBI printout. Is that okay?
