Question Form 80

Hi all,
I have a quick question about form 80:
I am an only child, my Parents divorced when I was 3, Back in the former USSR, and my biological father pretty much gave me up - he never had custody of me, never visited, never payed child support, in fact I never heard from him in the past 25 years.
I know (from mothers friend) that he is alive and has a new family in Ukraine, but we have no contact and I most certainly do not consider him to be my parent.
Will it satisfy Immi if I just right down his name and briefly explain the situation in the form? I know nothing about him and really like to keep it that way.
or will I be forced to contact him to get his and his new family (he has 2 kids) details? (I dread the thought!)

Thanx

Hi,

I would include your father in the relevant sections, but maybe you can write in section 37 (the part at the end for addtional info.) that you are not on good terms and why, and that you know he has 2 children but don't know anything about them.

They can't force you, I would think, to contact someone you are not comfortable with. The form 80 is given to ASIO (the Australian intellegence service) and is processed by them, so I'm sure they would notify you if they needed the extra informaiton.

ASIO is only interested in your background to see if you or anyone close to you are involved in any terrorist activity or could be a danger to Australia.

Thank you aussiegirl, I think I might just right down his name and explain that I had nothing to do with him for the past 25 years, It is true and only in the past year have I learnt that he's even alive, I don't even know his birth date or if he still goes by the same name.

So now they have the documents they need to assess the visa application. Unfortunately you just have to wait. If you don't anything it usually means things are fine so don't constantly try to ask for updates. They are busy processing hundreds of other visas so ne calm and just wait for them to contact you when they need more info.
