Has he got access to a printer to print out the confirmation?

It will not be surprising that he gets questioned coming back in after being gone only a few hours.

There is a printing service desk in the airport, but otherwise he will have it on his phone.

I wonder if he will this time. We have been fortunate enough that other times he has never been questioned. Previously when we did a PMV in 2010 ( a story for another time on why we are now applying for a 309 years later) and he would go out to NZ for a few hours to update his visitor visa, he never got questioned intensely. Just a casual why so short of a visit and he explained that we were waiting on a PMV decision. We did that 3 or 4 times before having the PMV granted.

Unfortunately they are unpredictable so always better to be prepared . Maybe it also depends where you fly in to as well.

How long ago did he have the PMV? I believe (not 100% sure though) that you can do PMV to 820 even if the PMV is expired but I am not sure how long that is for.... Too late now anyway. Hopefully the previous PMV will make it a faster process for you guys

Good luck

I guess it is too late to enquire about a previously held PMV to 820 now.

We had the PMV granted around the end of 2011, would have to pull out the paper to be exact. Later we decided that we would instead live in the U.S and my partner flew back to start working and get the application under way, but ended up having a bad accident.

When myself and our son flew out to help with his recovery we ended up staying a total of 6 months. I love it there, but realised that Australia offered a better quality of life and was safer to bring up our son. So here we are now going through the process again.

Just an update. Visa 309 application lodged minutes ago and we have the receipt for payment. So thankful and happy that we were able to get in before the 1st Jan.

Congratulations! This thread was like a mini-soap opera with the happy ending we were all hoping for! Given your complex circumstances, you sound very down-to-earth about the challenges that multi-national love presents. Happy new year to your family!

Yes it was a bit like a daytime soap and I am glad that we got it in and now just need to wait for a decision. I think I may seem down-to-earth about the challenges of going through this process because we have done it before.

Edited to add that my partner was asked in Auckland why he has been out to NZ for very short periods of times so often over the years, but everything was okay once he explained why. Coming back in at Brisbane he wasn't questioned at all and used the express lane.

Happy new year to all.
