Certified copies for every document ?

Hi everyone,

I am going to apply for the partner visa 820 in Australia.
I would like to know if I will need a certified copy of every single document I provide with my application ?
Someone told me that I can also use scanned, uncertified colour copies when I am applying online, which I am planing to do. Is this right ?
I would also like to know where I could go to get my documents certified. I am living in South Australia. Would a post office be the place to go ?

Any help is muchly appreciated !

Hey sina,

Yes! If you're applying online, you can used the scans of your original documents. No need to get them certified.
Applicants submitting paper applications must have all their ID and government issued paperwork certified.
Yes! You can get your documents certified at the post office.

And below is a list of people who too can certify documents:-
• Justice of the Peace;
• medical practitioner;
• legal practitioner;
• civil marriage celebrant or registered minister of religion;
• dentist;
• nurse;
• optometrist;
• pharmacist;
• physiotherapist;
• full-time teacher;
• bank manager or bank officer with 5 or more continuous years of service;
• postal manager or permanent employee of the Australian Postal Commission with 5 or more
continuous years of service;
• police officer; or
• public servant with 5 or more continuous years of service.

Hope this helps. Good Luck!

Kind Regards,
Becky

Becky listed it perfectly! Just got a little bit to add:

Sina, you should go to the court house and get them to sign it, it's the easiest. Some shopping centres have justice of peace (JP) set up for services too. It's free either way.

I thought I read that you did have to get documents certified? I was reading the partner migration booklet and thought I read it in there? Would they only be talking about paper based applications?

You don't need to get the documents certified for the online application, just need the scans of the original documents.
The partner migration booklet is talking about the paper ones.

The Partner Migration Booklet is very out of date - it was written before the online system for partner visa applications was available. It's been over a year now. You'd think they would, oh I don't know, update it or something.

Hi CollegeGirl,

It sure is clearly!

It's a little frustrating too as you want to make sure you do everything correct. But if the booklet is outdated for online applications then that just makes it even harder!! Yes updating seems like a reasonable request lol

Thanks a lot everybody Just one more thing. You are all saying that 'scans of the originals' are fine to use. Do those scans need to be coloured or can they also be black and white ?
